Sell Mulberry Unlimited subscriptions
Offer recurring Mulberry Unlimited protection on your Shopify store.
Overview
Mulberry Unlimited is a recurring (monthly) protection plan your customers subscribe to on your Shopify store. Unlike one-time warranty offers, which cover a single product, Unlimited is an ongoing subscription. For the Shopify Unlimited product, recurring charges run on Shopify's own native subscription billing — Mulberry processes the resulting Shopify billing events automatically.
The single most important thing to know: Unlimited runs as a separate Shopify app that Mulberry installs and operates on your store — it is not the same app as your standard Mulberry Product Protection install. The protection product, its selling plan, the webhooks, and the entire subscription lifecycle are all set up and managed by Mulberry's backend. Your role is to get the feature turned on with your Partner Success manager and, optionally, to surface enrollment offers on your storefront.
Unlimited is provisioned by Mulberry, not self-serveYou can't install or fully configure Unlimited on your own. Enablement, the protection product, the selling plan, and the dedicated subscriptions app are all set up for you by Mulberry. The steps below cover what you can act on — everything else is handled by your Partner Success manager.
Prerequisites
Before enabling Unlimited, make sure the following are true:
- The Mulberry Product Protection app is installed and your standard integration is live. See Install the Mulberry app.
- Your store is eligible for Shopify subscriptions. Native subscriptions require your store to meet Shopify's own subscription requirements. If your store isn't eligible, Mulberry can't complete the native subscription setup — confirm eligibility with Shopify first. (Shopify: Subscriptions)
- You have a Partner Success manager contact at Mulberry to turn the feature on.
You don't create the productThe "Mulberry Unlimited" protection product and its variant are created automatically by Mulberry's backend when the feature is enabled for your shop. Do not create or duplicate this product yourself.
Enable Unlimited for your store
- Contact your Partner Success manager and request that Mulberry Unlimited be enabled for your account.
- Mulberry enables the Unlimited setting for your shop. This automatically creates the Mulberry Unlimited protection product and variant in your Shopify catalog and, when native subscriptions are turned on, attaches the associated selling plan. You should now see a Mulberry Unlimited product (product type "Protection Plan", vendor "Mulberry") in your Shopify product catalog.
- Mulberry installs the dedicated Unlimited subscriptions app on your store. This is a distinct app from your standard Mulberry Product Protection install — it has its own app identity and authentication, holds the subscription-contract and customer-payment-method permissions Shopify requires for native subscriptions, and registers the subscription webhooks (contract create/update plus billing-attempt success, failure, and challenged) that drive billing and the plan lifecycle.
Managing the protection productThe Unlimited purchase option is managed entirely by Mulberry. In the product's subscription admin block, Add, Create, and Edit are intentionally disabled — only Remove is available, which detaches the Unlimited selling plan. To change anything about the plan, contact your Partner Success manager rather than editing it in Shopify.
Add the post-checkout enrollment offer
Once Unlimited is enabled, customers enroll through Mulberry's storefront components. The canonical placement is a post-checkout offer on the Shopify order status page, where eligible customers can subscribe to (or activate) Unlimited after purchase. The same component framework can also surface offers in other placements such as the cart — your Partner Success manager controls which placements are active.
The order-status offer is delivered by Mulberry's Shopify Adapter, served from the ottawa.getmulberry.com deployment host. To add it:
-
In your Shopify admin, go to Settings → Checkout.
-
Scroll to the Order status page section and paste the following into Additional Scripts:
<script src="https://ottawa.getmulberry.com/app/adapter.js" /> -
Click Save.
-
Ask your Partner Success manager to switch the Unlimited order-status component on for your account.
After the component is switched on, eligible customers will see a Mulberry Unlimited offer on the order status page following checkout. The offer initializes only on Shopify's post-checkout (thank-you) URLs.
Why the toggle is separatePasting the script makes the adapter available on the page, but whether the Unlimited offer actually renders is gated by a Mulberry-side setting your Partner Success manager controls. Adding the script alone will not surface the offer.
Surface a banner-style offer (optional)
Beyond the standard order-status offer, Mulberry can supply a banner-style placement — a clickable Unlimited promo image that opens the enrollment flow. It's delivered through the same adapter component above, not a separate script you hand-build, and the image, the destination, and which placements show it are all managed by Mulberry.
Don't rebuild a banner from an old snippetEarlier integrations used a hand-pasted image-and-link banner. That's superseded: the current banner is rendered by the adapter component and opens the Mulberry enrollment modal rather than redirecting to a landing page, and the image URL and UTM convention have changed. Ask your Partner Success manager to enable a banner placement and to provide the current asset for your account.
How the customer flow works
You don't operate the subscription lifecycle — it's driven by Mulberry and Shopify's native subscription billing — but it helps to know what your customers experience.
- Enroll — On the order status page (or another enabled placement), an eligible customer subscribes to Unlimited. The Unlimited variant is added to the order against its selling plan, so the subscription is created through Shopify-native subscriptions and arrives at Mulberry already active. A welcome email is sent.
- Activate — A customer who purchased Unlimited but whose protection isn't yet in effect may see an Activate action instead of a fresh offer. The copy explains that the initial payment covers only the next 30 days and that the customer must activate to keep protection going. Which of these two states a given customer sees is decided upstream by Mulberry, not by anything you configure.
- Recurring billing — Charges run on Shopify's native subscription billing on a monthly cadence. Mulberry processes the resulting Shopify billing-attempt events (success renews the plan; failure is recorded) automatically; no manual reconciliation is required on your side.
- Cancellation — When a subscription's Shopify contract is cancelled, Mulberry ends the plan and the active warranty. Cancellation does not issue a refund.
- Customer self-management — A signed-in customer can view and manage their Unlimited subscription from your storefront at
https://your-store.myshopify.com/apps/mulberry/unlimited. The page is headed "Mulberry Unlimited Subscription" and shows the customer's first and last name, Started On, Last Billing Date, Subscription Status, and a link to log in to the Mulberry dashboard. A Cancel Subscription button appears only while the subscription is active. The customer must be signed in to their store account to see this page; otherwise they're prompted to sign in.
No order entry requiredJust like one-time warranties, Unlimited subscriptions are registered with Mulberry automatically through Shopify webhooks. You don't need to upload a CSV or enter anything manually.
"Last Billing Date" on a brand-new subscriptionFor a freshly created subscription with no billing attempts yet, Last Billing Date falls back to the start date — so it can match Started On until the first renewal is attempted.
What needs Partner Success
Several Unlimited behaviors are controlled by Mulberry rather than a self-serve toggle in your dashboard. Contact your Partner Success manager to:
- Turn Unlimited on or off for your account (this provisions or removes the product, selling plan, and webhooks).
- Change anything about the Unlimited plan or its protection product.
- Switch on the post-checkout enrollment component after you add the script.
- Adjust which storefront placements surface Unlimited offers.
- Get the current Unlimited banner asset, destination, and UTM convention for your account.
Plan pricing and coverage limits are per-retailerUnlimited pricing and the covered-product price cap are tiered and configured per retailer in Mulberry's system — they are not a single fixed price or cap. Confirm the exact monthly price (including any discounted first month) and the maximum product value covered for your tiers with your Partner Success manager before promoting the plan. Don't quote figures from elsewhere.
