Automatic Warranty Start Date

⚠️ Action required: If you installed Mulberry Product Protection before February 25, 2026, you must re-approve the app permissions to enable this feature.

Overview

Mulberry warranties for Shopify orders now automatically start when you fulfill (ship) an order, rather than when the order is placed. This means your customers' warranty coverage begins from the date they actually receive their product, not the date they purchased it.

Previously, warranty start dates defaulted to the sale date unless you separately submitted shipping data to Mulberry. With this update, Mulberry listens for Shopify's fulfillments/create event and resets the warranty start date to the fulfillment date automatically — no extra API calls or manual steps required.

How It Works

  • A customer places an order that includes a Mulberry warranty.
  • The warranty is initially created with the order date as the start date.
  • When you fulfill the order in Shopify (mark items as shipped), Shopify notifies Mulberry automatically.
  • Mulberry resets the warranty start date to the fulfillment date.
  • The warranty updates when the fulfillment is created in Shopify — not when a tracking number is added later.

This happens in the background with no action needed from you or your customers after the initial setup below.

Setup

1. Update the Mulberry App

Make sure you are running the latest version of the Mulberry Product Protection Shopify app. If you installed Mulberry Product Protection before this feature was released, you will need to re-authorize the app to grant the new permission.

2. Approve Updated Scopes

Mulberry now needs permission to read order fulfillment data from Shopify. To approve this:

  • Log in to your Shopify Admin.
  • Navigate to Settings > Apps and sales channels.
  • Click on Mulberry Product Protection.
  • If prompted, click Approve to grant the updated permissions.

If you are not prompted automatically, you may need to uninstall and reinstall the Mulberry Product Protection app. This will not delete your warranties or configuration.

3. Verify

After approving the updated scopes, no further configuration is needed. To verify the feature is working:

  • Create a test order that includes a Mulberry warranty.
  • Fulfill the order in Shopify.
  • Check the warranty in your Mulberry dashboard — the start date should reflect the fulfillment date, not the original order date.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if I fulfill an order in multiple shipments (partial fulfillment)?

Each fulfillment event updates the warranty start date only for the items included in that fulfillment. Items shipped in a later fulfillment will have their warranty start date set to that later fulfillment date.

What if I already fulfilled orders before enabling this feature?

This feature only applies to fulfillments created after the update. Previously fulfilled orders retain their original warranty start dates. If you need to adjust a warranty start date for an existing order, please contact Mulberry support.

Does this work with third-party fulfillment apps?

Yes. Any app or workflow that creates a fulfillment through Shopify's standard fulfillment process will trigger the warranty start date update.
